Tashi Lhunpo monastery in exile was shocked to know about the dismissal of one of the most important senior member of the Panchen Lama Search committee in Tibet. According to the reliable sources he passed away at Luding in Shigatse on 13th November.

Jangpa Chungla  joined Tashi Lhunpo monastery in Tibet in early fifties to pursue Buddhist studies. Later he worked under various capacities, and even as the director at the Panchen Lama's main residence Dechen kelsang Podang.

In 1995, Jangpa Chungla la accompanied Jadrel Rinpoche to Beijing on assignment related to search process. They were arrested on their return  to Tibet. In 1996, Jangpa Chungla was sentenced to 5 years in jail on alleged charges of leaking State secrets in process finding the reincarnation of the 10th Panchen Lama. Even after completing his term in prison he was under strict vigilance and restriction.

We the monks of Tashi Lhunpo monastery will miss him so much ans most important point is that it was very sad for us that majority of the monks here had not seen him even during he is alive. Tashi Lhunpo monks are performing special prayers for the benefit of his next life and may his late soul remain in peace. We will miss him so much.
