His Holiness the Dalai Lama graced Tashi Lhunpo Monastery with a visit on December 22, 2017. The attending monks chanted a special prayer of His Holiness, the first Dalai Lama. Afterward, His Holiness praised and thanked the monks for the spiritually inspiring prayer. This was followed by a short debate by several student monks on Pramana, the Buddhist philosophy in which His Holiness has specifically instructed our teachers to teach the student monks during his last visit to Tashi Lhunpo Monastery. This delighted His Holiness to witness progress made by the students.
His Holiness reminisced, recalling His happy time when He stayed at Tashi Lhunpo Monastery several years ago. He commented on the serenity and peaceful ambience of the monastery. He told us that Tashi Lhunpo Monastery is His Monastery. This gladdened our hearts.
His Holiness mentioned that He has started a Pramana teaching during His past visit and wished he could finish it one day. Because He is getting older, He is easily tired and uncertain if he could do days of intensive teaching as before.
He urged us all to study hard and in particular, to continue to acquire the knowledge and wisdom on emptiness. He reminded us of our founding heritage from Nalanda University. This philosophical doctrine of the Middle Way, teaches emptiness as well as depending origination. It is the core to Buddhism. He reminded us to practice love and compassion.
His Holiness’ visit is an immense blessing. We are inspired by His words of wisdom. May His Holiness plant His lotus feet upon this world for years to come. May He continue to illuminate us with His love and compassion.
