The title is bestowed alternately on one or the other of the two Choejeys – Sharpa Choejey or Jangtse Choejey.

This fortuitous event will begin with a reception for the 104th. Gaden Tripa on August 4, 2017. The following day, August 5, 2017, there will be a reception for the Gaden Tripa in the main hall of the Gaden Tri-Thok-Khang attended by the abbots and senior monks of the Gelug monasteries including Tashi Lhunpo Monastery. The ceremony continues with rituals, prayers, including the offerings of thankas by the Gaden Tripa to the throne (Shukdre), followed by the Long-life puja (Tenshug) for the newly enthroned Gaden Tripa.
