The Enthronement of the 104th Gaden Tripa
Tashi Lhunpo Monastery is pleased to Announce a special ceremony in honor of the enthronement and long-life puja for the 104th Gaden Tripa, H.E. Jangtse Choejey Kyabje Jetsun Lobsang Tenzin Palsangpo from Sara Jey Monastery. The ceremony is to be held on August 4th and 5th, 2017, at Gaden Tri-Thok-Khang (Geluk International Foundation) in Mondgod, South India.
The appointment of Gaden Tripa is made by His Holiness the Fourteenth Dalai Lama on June 24, 2017. The Gaden Tripa, “Holder of the Gaden Throne” is the title of the spiritual head of the Gelug school of Tibetan Buddhism, founded by Je Tsongkapa (1357-1419). Since, the lineage has been held unbroken by the Gaden Tripas. This appointed office occurs every seven years. The title is bestowed alternately on one or the other of the two Choejeys – Sharpa Choejey or Jangtse Choejey.
This fortuitous event will begin with a reception for the 104th. Gaden Tripa on August 4, 2017. The following day, August 5, 2017, there will be a reception for the Gaden Tripa in the main hall of the Gaden Tri-Thok-Khang attended by the abbots and senior monks of the Gelug monasteries including Tashi Lhunpo Monastery. The ceremony continues with rituals, prayers, including the offerings of thankas by the Gaden Tripa to the throne (Shukdre), followed by the Long-life puja (Tenshug) for the newly enthroned Gaden Tripa.
We, at Tashi Lhunpo Monastery wish the Gaden Tripa happiness and good health as His Eminence leads us in our spiritual quest and practice.
